Nose: Pilsner fizzle, capers, cedar, pickle brine, tomato leaves
Palate: Hint of wine/sulfur, pickle. bergamot, lightly bitter
Rating: 5 / 10 – surprised by the depth of character
Nose: Rich stonefruits, red plums, tobacco, wet dunnage, hint of deviled egg (specifically pickle and mustard)
Palate: Huge px sweety. Sitting on a knife’s edge of my tolerance for sulfur. Probably too far over to be honest. Yup, I’d write more as I like the big syrupy notes but can’t hang.
Rating: 5 / 10 – ough if you don’t mind sulfur and you love heavy sherry bombs, this could be epic. Unfortunately, I can’t hang.
Nose: Yellow peaches, cantaloupe, kumquat.
Palate: Orange blossom honey, anise seed, flinstone’s vitamin chews, elderflower
Rating: 7 / 10 – this is just beautiful
Nose: Fresh cut grass, fresh spruce forest, chamomile and honey.
Palate: Catnip, lavender cookies, fresh cracked pepper, honey simple syrup, orange pith
Rating: 6 / 10 – fun and different
Nose: Strawberry licorice ropes, dried turkish apricots, dark chocolate covered freeze-dried cherries, figs, mike & ikes, fresh cut grass
Palate: Luxardo cherries, christmas pudding, light rye toast, cloves and vanilla, wood bite.
Rating: 8 / 10 – can’t believe this is not a sherry cask. It’s so luscious.
Nose: Pineapple upside down cake, maple frosted shortbread cookie, almond tree in bloom, acetone
Palate: Almond biscotti, apricot black tea, very tannic, vanilla extract, all spice
Rating: 6 / 10
Nose: Violets and honeysuckle. Sphagnum moss and orchids. Orange sweetened dried cranberries. Rich deep scone vibe, with a huge dollop of fresh whipped cream and a couple ripe strawberries. And a mint leaf for garnish. Sugar cookie batter. Slights hints of fresh celery.
Palate: The palate is an exact match to the nose, which is absolutely delightful. The wood is strong but perfectly balanced by the sweetness of the sherry integration. Fatty texture. Reminds me of the first fat washed apple cider I had. Honey and warm brown sugars. Hazelnut. Shane gets anise seed but Ryan leans toward shashito pepper. A splash of raspberry. This drinks insanely smooth, and yet, minutes later, there is a big mouth tingle on the finish
Rating: 9 / 10 – This is the closest thing to whisky “dessert” I think I’ve had without having sugar shock. A level of elegance I wasn’t ready for, but have to kneel and shout… we are not worthy. Feels like I should have dressed up. Good thing Ryan wore his thong. I totally get why people chase after these older Glengoynes.
Nose: Capri-sun orange juice. Guava and unripe banana. Marsh grass. Clove butter, almost flambee.
Palate: Tony Chocolonely salted caramel milk chocolate. Dark chocolate orange. Bitter almonds. A dark heavy german bread loaf. The kind which are actually edible bricks slicked as cracker alternatives.
Rating: 4 / 10 – okay, better than the 1988 but still no bueno. Maybe I’m missing something.
