Glen Moray 17 year 2005 Petingar Cask 3676
Nose: Key lime pie, vanilla pudding, coconut flakes
Palate: Dry and a touch astringent, lemon cleanser, unripe peach
Rating: 4 / 10 – I like the nose but the palette doesn’t work for me at all
Nose: Key lime pie, vanilla pudding, coconut flakes
Palate: Dry and a touch astringent, lemon cleanser, unripe peach
Rating: 4 / 10 – I like the nose but the palette doesn’t work for me at all
Nose: Star of anise, plums, oak, dried lemon peel, thick syrupy vibe
Palate: An extremely simple oak concoction. Hints of sherry fruit bouquet, but lacks complexity. If you like a gentle (death grip -> Ryan) oak hug, this works quite nicely. Lemon and grapefruit peel. Tape.
Rating: 7 (Shane) 5 (Ryan) / 10 – Shane had a tiny mouth party. Ryan was party pooped on after the first dance.
Nose: Milk chocolate
Palate: Spanish hot chocolate with churros, coffee, cranberries. This runs hot. Way too hot. 4th pour, should not be this hot
Rating: 5 / 10 – solid sherry palate, but weak nose and hot hotness
Nose: Vanilla, angel food cake, apple cider vinegar, walnuts, powdered sugar.
Palate: This is like having the state fair explode in your taste buds. Sweet powdered sugar sprinkled on deep fried fatty whatever you might dream up? Deep fried butter? Check. Deep fried candy bars? Funnel cake? Vanilla ice cream? Ohhhh yeah. The wood weights in nicely with an rootbeer / licorice vibe.
Rating: 8 (Shane) 9 (Ryan) / 10 – what a big all around well integrated beauty
Nose: Spearmint, lime, redvines
Palate: Lime zest frosting, copper penny, cinnamon, guarapo
Rating: 6 / 10 – a fine vibrant bottle
Nose: Moist tobacco, chocolate, prunes, forest leaves in fall, thyme, sage and peppercorn, cranberry juice
Palate: Cardboard, pomegranate juice with the full on dry mouth pucker, gravlax, charcoal. Vegetal notes tiptoeing to broccoli. This runs HOT.
Rating: 5 / 10 – barely a five.
Nose: Nail polish, limestone, broccoli and leeks, sawdust, warm desert wind, egg white, lawnmower hard at work. Bee’s wax. Crab apples.
Palate: Chalk, like when I accidentally touch my face when climbing, super mineral with a metallic edge. Reminds me of a grapa. Cedar. floral and then intensely sour.
Rating: 6 / 10
Nose: Freaking nutella. Even the smell of it after all these years makes me flinch. Not enough people know that you can poison yourself on nutella just like you can with alcohol. If you are 8 years old and eat a gallon of that spread. But for everyone who thinks it smells amazing, chocolate hazelnut butter. Under that richness is a potent nose crinkler. Turnips? Pink peppercorn. Slightly under ripe raspberries. And dried wood varnish, the day after I apply it to the sauna bench. Which is my new pride and joy. I know I basically live in the tropics, but there is something amazing to a legit steam room that soothes my soul and makes me full of joy.
Palate: The biscuits they serve with coffee, or on airplanes. Can’t remember the name for the life of me, but it’s sorta butter n cabinet spices… approaching graham crackers. Unripe honeydew melon. With its potential for vast sweetness with a tart twist thrown in. Touch of caramel and vanilla. Smack of oak, noticeable without overwhelming but mighty present. Finish has a nice spice vibe, nutmeg and light touch of cloves..
Rating: 6 / 10 – lovely. Fun palate with plenty to offer. The notes kind of fight with each other rather than harmonizing
Nose: Fresh leather, menthol, subtle lychee
Palate: Strong menthol, chicory coffee, dark chocolate covered espresso bean, and dandelion greens. Medical tape and gauze. Very woody, mouthfeel is tannic. A sulfur vibe I need to revisit once my sinuses are 100%
Rating: 4 (Ryan) 5 (Shane) / 10 – yup… sulfur. Ouch.
Nose: Dandelion, lime leaves, lychee, green apple jolly rancher
Palate: Green apple jolly rancher, on old stale juicy fruit gum, white pepper, wax paper
Rating: 5 / 10 – while the nose isn’t a stunner, it gets better as it rests. The palate is pleasant but mild. Cask strength even at 43.5%.
