Rating: 6 / 10 – rivesalt cask is very present
Nose: Chocolate milk, grape, licorice.
Palate: Tobacco, dates, rye toast, bergamot
Rating: 7 / 10 – tasty!!! Wish we tried it first
Nose: Sandalwood, chocolate, malt balls, slightly perfumed
Palate: Dried figs, prunes, cinnamon stick, cloves, marzipan, tiniest amount of astringency on the finish
Rating: 6 (Ryan) 7 (Shane) / 10
Nose: Some strange funk on the nose, along with white peaches
Palate: White wine cask notes, hints of peat
Rating: 6 / 10 – too rushed for good notes but nice pour. Keeping it anyways so I remember.
Nose: Vietnamese cinnamon, rose hips, fresh whipped cream, lovely sherried notes of dark fruits, violet, packing tape, pencil lead
Palate: Those sherried dark fruits poached, cedar, lightly bitter/herbal on the finish
Rating: 6 / 10
Nose: Lychee, tangerine, sumo oranges up front. Dried turkish apricots. Dried figs and dates. So bright, then an earthen layer. Potting soil and warm bricks. Tobacco leaf. A fussiness that is hinting towards sulfur but tips back from the dark side.
Palate: Big wholoping sherry layer. Prune juice. Leather and tobacco. Carob. Blackberries. Pink peppercorn. Not sulfury like I was afraid of but the sherry has taken over.
Rating: 6 / 10 – I quite enjoy a sherry bomb but feel like we may have lost of some the character I like from the previous 18yo bottlings.
Nose: Buttercream frosting, clementines, lemon, minerality, orange blossom water, packing tape, wax
Palate: Honey, green peppercorns, cornflakes, oily with subtle peat which nicely balances with the fruitiness and sweetness. Slightly astringent towards the end with grassy, barnyard notes.
Rating: 6 / 10 – a simpler Longrow 18 from the initial we tried, but still has a nice balance between fruit, sweet, and peat.
Nose: Anise, barnyard, hay, tangerine, iodine, cedar, incense.
Palate: Buttery, sweet, touch of peat and smoke, lychee, caviar and creme fraiche on a potato chip, muscles with a honey dijon cream, Totino’s pizza rolls, honey on beer bread.
Rating: 7 / 10 – a very well blended and lovely seaside smoke bit
Nose: I miss tangerines. The whole orange family to be truthful… being allergic isn’t all bad, but given that fresh squeezed oj is basically all they serve for breakfast in Spain, it’s a shame. The nose kicks off vibrant citrus and then gets hints at something more lucious, going all creamsicle orange soda. Touches of nuttyness and caramelization. Bittle? A very light fudge? But when I drew deep I gasped. Intensely astringent under the candy shop. Wondering if this is an Audry II situation.
Palate: Sweet off the scale and then sharp. Right along with the nose. Tangerine juice with white tea notes. Crisp yellow peaches. Dang this would make a lovely simple syrup. The burn, which almost comes across as metallic notes which underlie the sweetness are actually working for me. Not quite copper penny and not quite aspirin.Oysters with mignonette sauce. Cilantro. Don’t let those last two freak you out. It’s quite well balanced.
Rating: 5 / 10 – this is fun. Not something I’d reach for often, but enjoyed it. I have a hard time reconciling the vibrant fruitiness with a rum cask.
Nose: Chocolate mochi. Not the icecream ones, but the jelly like bean paste. I actually prefer the fried red bean sesame balls personally. Which also applies quite well on this nose. I kinda screwed up the first piece of mothers day today. Brunch! Yes please!! Reservations … craaaaaaap. Thank goodness I had those legacy Michael Jackson tickets in my back pocket. Not necessarily my jam, but happy wife. After 30 minutes of wandering we found an open asian buffet, which had a line but gave us a table. Sweet and sour soup. The deep fried duck was a standout, paired with the plum sauce takes me into the classic oloroso dried dark fruit. Goji berries and fresh leather. A lovely nose. The celery salt note I associate with older redbreast is a touch hidden, but not lost.
Palate: Yum. Packed with flavor without getting too deep and brooding. Dried cranberries, cherries, dark chocolate and granola trail mix. Pomegranate reduction on chocolate sorbet. Cloves and cinnamon sprinkled on toasted butter brioche. A gorgeous oak hug. It’s just elegant. Pairs well with a solid bossa nova.
Rating: 8 / 10 – Thank you so much @martin for the sample. There is a mystique to the oldest age statements, but FaH nailed it with picking the younger sibling.
Nose: Turnips, bear squeeze jar honey, green apple peel, hint of brown sugar
Palate: Concentrated punch of flavor, orange blossoms, cachou lajaunie, Physalis (aka golden berry) which are totally unrelated to syphilis despite the awkward overlap.
Rating: 6 / 10 – a pompous and thin fruity mint bomb.
Nose: Pear drops, vanilla custard, panna cotta, lemon, honeysuckle, nectarine, very light violet
Palate: Touch of honey in white tea, lime peel, unripe nectarine, waxy.
Rating: 7 / 10 – en elegant and light summer pour
