Nose: Star of anise, grapefruit, fabric bandaid, overripe banana peel, brown sugar, clove
Palate: Holy concentration batman, coffee creme brulee, tangerine peel, balsamic, licorice root, caramelized goat cheese, cloves and star of anise.
Rating: 7 / 10 – just so damn intense. I’m a bit overwhelmed and totally delighted. Full metal armagnac.

Highland Park 12 1990s dumpy 40%
Nose: Gummy worms, green bananas, pistachio, touch of cinnamon
Palate: Heather, light honey and nuts – baklava.
Rating: 7 / 10 – gentle, lovely, and in the wrong place in the lineup for this tasting. Wish I was trying it on a clean palate. I am not getting all the subtle notes that are definitely there. It is really good and if you ever stumble onto one of these, I say it’s worth a pour for sure. It’s a 6-7+ but could be more.

Balcones 4 Year 64.15% for Single Cask Nation
Nose: Exotic woods, sandlewood, potpourri, wintergreen, with water this nose comes to life: vietnamese cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, rose hip, camphor
Palate: Rye toast with marmite spread and an espresso shot. Chocolate covered espresso beans, Carrob, leather… I would totally add this to a mole sauce… with water it explodes with vanilla, and the cinamon… a mexican hot chocolate.
Rating: 7 as is, a 9 with water / 10 – a hands down amazing pour, but I could only handle one bottle of this. But with water, holy shit it’s even better.

Nose: Tangerine peel, pink grapefruit juice.
Palate: Tangerine all the way, white tea, cloves pushed into an orange, pink peppercorn, the finish goes a hint tanic along the path of lemon pith … yet so damn juicy
Rating: 7 / 10 – Such a good pick. It’s a touch hot and puckering on the finish, and dang the juiciness is amazing.

Nose: Laundry freshener, lavender, feels like I am hugging a small talking stuffed bear
Palate: Ping grapefruit gummies, clove candies, lavender cookies including the bitterness on the finish

Nose: Lychee, black tea, violets, milkweed sap
Palate: Nose to the palate is a perfect match. Deeply concentrated, black tea, violets, touch of something herbal
Rating: 7 / 10 – this is a deep power pour… and yet somehow it might be a 6 on some days and 7 on others

Lheraud Petite Champagne 2011 Cask Sample #? @ 44%
Nose: Sauternes, limestone, crisp salmon skin, wheat grass.
Palate: Amazing gentle sweetness, agave nectar, honey dew melon juice, roasted almonds, browned butter. The earthiness of cascara tea without any tannins. almost reminds me of a late harvest wine the way it lands. It’s incredibly simple, but what a beautiful note.
Rating: 7 / 10 – it’s so strange how the nose and palate differ yet align. The nose has funk I notice but doesn’t overwhelm on the palate like the 2002. The sip is lovely. Just lovely. And for a good price this is an easy sipper any day but I might not pay a Lheraud premium for it. It lacks complexity, but It’s what I would give non drinkers in a tiny shot after a large meal any day in place of the traditional honey rum served here in the canaries.

Nose: Tangerine, crisp yellow peaches, fresh cantaloupe, jasmine, on an empty glass something earthier emerges, cooked butternut squash and old spice cologne
Palate: Wow on the palate – a tropical fruit explosion with a strong underlayer of old spice. Seriously wow. Yellow peach compote drizzled over vanilla icecream, cloves and nutmeg, cardamom
Rating: 7 / 10 – this is exceptionally potent. A bit rougher than some Lheraud, but with a burst of energy that I find captivating. This is an old armagnac drinkers cognac. Higher ABV?
