Pouteou 2005/2025 FB Cask Sample #178 47.5%
Nose: Rich unctuous, sweet wood, black cherry syrup, pommegranite.
Palate: Sweet, complex, cola, cherries, without any tannic bitterness
Rating: 7 / 10 – the bourbonites will like this
Nose: Astringent, light touch of urinal cake (sounds worse than it is), wood, dusty
Palate: Consistent with nose, cabinet spices, butterscotch, finish is heavy on the wood and astringent
Rating: 5 / 10
Nose: Wax, buttery, really lovely subtle sweetness like powdered sugar, there is a green note to this that is not unpleasant (akin to cucumber water).
Palate: Front of the palate is delicate and complex, lemon balm, white tea, subtle peach and greenhouse vibe (tomato vine, bell peppers), back of the palate veers towards endive/dandelion greens
Rating: 7 / 10 – what a wonderful pour. Elegant, complex, gentle.
Nose: Werther’s originals, vanilla, golden raisins, twinkie.
Palate: Tastes like feet. Which probably leaves you with questions… best unanswered. Good god uncharted, what are you doing?!?
Rating: 4 (Ryan) 3 (Shane) / 10 – this sux
Nose: Not terribly complex but pleasant. Oaky, floral with astringent undertones.
Palate: Oaky elements with a tannic kick. With a bigger sip a potpourri floral layer kicks in. Surprisingly hot with a larger sip given the abv.
Rating: 5 / 10 – happy to drink it but nothing special
Nose: Old wool sweater my grandfather wore when he had been smoking pipe tobacco. Mexican dark chocolate, incredibly rich
Palate: Incredible start. The first impact is lovely but the middle is missing something. Floral, sweet, spices. Beautiful but needs some oomph. Sorry for the vague notes today.
Rating: 6 / 10 – beautiful but missing a kick
Nose: Sharp black tea, bitters, black pepper reduction
Palate: Umami black pepper awesomeness. This should be a steak sauce. Spicy. Hot. fascinating.
Rating: 6 / 10 – I love this but can’t imagine wanting a bottle. But what a cool pour.
Nose: Smores, bottom of the tray of burnt ends, Kouign-amann.
Palate: Floral, tart cherrie tart. Ryan gets subtle sour note on the finish but I do not. I love the mouthfeel
Rating: 5 / 10
Nose: Smells intensely floral – stargazer lilly, grassy, unripened berries, red velvet cake, loganberry, unrippened berries
Palate: Quite perfumed with strong grassiness on the palate veering toward bath and body works soapiness. Cherry syrup. A powerful palate and well rounded.
Rating: 5 / 10 – I have to admit I’m disappointed. Not because this is terrible, but because batch one for me was a truly special pour. And so I made the extra effort to score a second batch two since I was given the option. Buff.
Nose: Violet, nutmeg, cacao, cedar planks, dried dates / apricots, smells like a drier forest, juniper berry, rich chocolate cake, tobacco leaf, a touch meaty
Palate: Dark chocolate and olive oil, tobacco, intense amaro note.
Rating: 8 / 10 THIS IS SPECTACULAR. For all the highs and many many lows that Glenallachie single casks have put me through, I want to call out the blending skill from this team. They just elevated the brand with this release. I need another bottle, but not paying secondary. Will probably have to wait for batch 2.
Nose: Amaretto, almond, dates.
Palate: Really pleasant sweetness, chai tea
Rating: 5 (Ryan) 6 (Shane) / 10 – feeling terse today.
Nose: Pencil, rose hip, fruity, berrylicious.
Palate: Astringent, a bit too woody, red fruit is dominant (pomegranate, cranberries)
Rating: 4 (Ryan) 5 (Shane) / 10
Nose: Sultanas and sweet moments with a chalky vibe
Palate: Sweet sherry notes, dried cherries, licorice stick, unctuous palate and super long finish, tobacco leaves
Rating: 7 / 10 – I don’t get the peat at all, but it’s tasty. Doubt I’d ever pay macallan prices for it but it’s good.
Nose: Strawberry jam, honeysuckle, cinnamon
Palate: Unique cabinet spices: cinnamon bear crackers, chalkiness / mustiness, tiny hint of soapiness
Rating: 6 / 10 – lovely and rounded with a bunch of sherry notes – incredible finish – but has an old bottle vibe that is a bit musty. I wonder if the original would have been a buy.
